Comma Splice

 Rule Don't put just a comma between two main clauses; that will create a comma splice.

 Test
 IF
What is on both sides of the comma can stand by themselves and make complete sense
   THEN

Use a semicolon to join them
OR

Add a coordinating conjunction after the comma
OR

Use a period
OR

Make one clause dependent on the other.
