MATH 161
Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers I
Units: 1.5, Hours: 3-0
Number systems and their properties, the set of real numbers and its subsets, the interpretation of numerical operations with applications including combinations and permutations, standard computation algorithms, basic statistics, including simple sampling and design issues. Problem solving is emphasized throughout.
Note: Credit will be granted for only one of 161, 160, 160A, and no more than 1.5 units of credit in MATH courses numbered 100 or higher, excluding 120. Intended for prospective Elementary Education students.

Prerequisites: One of Principles of Mathematics 11 or 12, Pre-calculus 11 or 12, Foundations of Mathematics 12.
