Mental Health and Child and Youth Care Practice
Units: 1.5, Hours: 3-0
An introduction to the cultural, philosophical, political, legislative and ethical history of mental health and mental illness. Includes an introduction to current assessment procedures within the mental health field including the use of DSM-IVR. The role of psychopharmacology will be explored in relation to other interventions. A strengths-based, holistic, and health promoting theoretical foundation will be presented as a context in which to examine common issues in the mental health field.
Prerequisites: Fourth-year standing.
Undergraduate course in Child and Youth Care offered by the School of Child and Youth Care in the Faculty of Human and Social Development.
