Ross Chapman

Ross Chapman received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. From 1976 to 1995 he was a Defence Scientist at the Defence Research Establishment, Pacific, and was Group Leader of Ocean Acoustics from 1991-1995.

In 1995 he was appointed Senior Chair in Ocean Acoustics at the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC. He is currently the Director of the University of Victoria's Centre of Earth and Ocean Research.

Dr. Chapman is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

 

 Research: 

My research interests are in seismo-acoustic propagation, with specific application to the study of marine gas hydrates, and development and application of acoustic inverse methods for estimation of geophysical properties of the ocean bottom and for source localization.
