Bio

Stephen E. Hume is a Senior Instructor in the Department of Economics, where he teaches writing to graduate and undergraduate students, including ECON 225, Writing for Economists, and ECON 595, a directed study course. As the department’s writing consultant, he also advises students who are taking the undergraduate honours course. He received a BA (Distinction) in English from Trinity College and an MA in English from the University of Toronto. His experience has included positions as teacher, writer, editor, author, and journalist. His work has been published in The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Vancouver Sun. He has published eight books. His textbook, Economics Writing, is in its third edition, and the royalties from its sale go to student scholarships at the University of Victoria.
