Minor in economic policy
The BA Minor in Economic Policy is a new minor program offered by the Department of Economics beginning in the 2008-09 academic year.
Introduction
The Minor in Economic Policy is designed for students majoring in fields outside economics but who wish to incorporate a substantive economics component into their program of study. The purpose of the Economic Policy minor is to provide students with a good background in the economics of public policy design. It provides a coherent set of courses that build a framework for thinking about key public policy issues, including health care, environmental issues, education, macroeconomic management, and trade and globalization. The focal point of the minor is a new course: ECON 113 Introduction to Economics for Policy Analysis.
This course was designed especially for this program, but will be open to all students. It provides a non-technical and intuitive introduction to the economic framework for thinking, accessible to a wide range of students with diverse academic backgrounds and aptitudes.
The Minor in Economic Policy is intended not only for students interested in pursuing a career in public policy, but also for students who simply wish to have a better understanding of the key policy debates that affect their lives as citizens on a daily basis.
