To date, Roger Bowen has written the two most comprehensive works analyzing the life and scholarly contributions of Herbert Norman: E. H. Norman: His Life and Scholarship (Toronto, University of Toronto Press, 1984), and Innocence is Not Enough: The Life and Death of Herbert Norman (Vancouver, Douglas & McIntyre, 1986).

Many others have written on specific aspects of Norman's life, work, and political persecution. We have attempted to provide direct links here to some of the most useful essays and reviews.
