Research Statement:

Dr. Gillis’ research focuses on fluid-rock interaction in ancient oceanic hydrothermal systems exposed in ophiolites and modern ocean basics.  Field and laboratory studies are aimed at understanding the nature of the magna – hydrothermal transition and the impact of off-axis, crustal aging processes on the physical and geochemical characteristics of the ocean crust.  Sea-going field programs involve dredging and swath bathymetry, submersible mapping, and deep drilling through the Ocean Drilling Program and the British Geological Survey coring facility.
