Funding & grant opportunities

Student funding available!

There are several grants available for student funding through the European Studies Program for research, travel, and other EU related activities.

The European Studies Program has been giving grants to Graduate and Undergraduate students via the European Union Centre of Excellence, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, Jamie Cassels Awards and other sources. For years students have been traveling and participating of programs such as EU Study Tour and West Coast Model EU thanks to all the grant funding available at the EUS.

Students can apply for funding 3 times per year by submitting the following to the ESP office (Cornett B136) or by email to eusprog@uvic.ca:

• your CV
• a letter of intent
• a letter of reference from a professor

The criteria used by the selection comittee in order to assess best candidates for the grants are:

• Strength of application
• Purpose of study/work
• Relationship between intent and European Studies
• Best use of funds

Michael Lenaghan, Eureopean Studies Program
"Boasting many of the world leaders in sustainable development, particularly with regards to renewable energy, the European Union provides a poignant example of how governments can drive the transition towards a more ‘Green’ economy.  I propose a comparative analysis of the primary factors (political, social, economic and geographic) which have enabled certain EU members states to distinguish themselves as regional and global leaders in the renewable energy industry.  In so doing, I aim to provide a developmental guideline for other EU member states and non-member states alike, seeking to transition their own energy systems towards renewable sources. In addition, I hope that this study can contribute to the formation of a new course on European Environmentalism within the University of Victoria’s European Studies Program.”
