Visit the University of Victoria!
Located on a beautiful 160-hectare campus in suburban Victoria, UVic is easily accessible by car, bus, or bicycle, and is only a short stroll from the ocean.
Victoria is located on the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island and boasts one of Canada's mildest climates. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and is the largest city on Vancouver Island, with a metropolitan population of approximately 300,000. It is a major centre of government and a world-renowned tourism destination.
Widely reputed to have the best climate in Canada, Victoria enjoys average high temperatures ranging from 5 degrees Celsius in the winter to 25 degrees Celsius in the summer. Although the west coast is known for its rainfall, Victoria's location at the southeastern tip of the island gives it one of the driest microclimates in the Pacific Northwest. Consequently, Victoria and its surrounding areas are ideal for a wide variety of outdoor activities.
Vancouver Island is known for its varied geography and dramatic natural beauty. Students often take day trips to nearby beaches and mountains. A number of national and provincial parks are within a two hour drive. Opportunities for surfing, kayaking, hiking, rowing, bicycling, windsurfing, golfing and sailing are all within easy reach. Daily rail service runs up-island to Courtenay, home to Mount Washington, the Island's largest ski resort. Many students take camping trips to points on the west coast of the Island such as Tofino, the Clayoquot and the West Coast Trail as well as throughout the Southern Gulf Islands.
