UVic sponsors
UVic currently services three sponsors who support the university with cash and in-kind contributions. Sponsors are businesses who have been approached to provide cash or value-in-kind to a university program, project or event that is closely aligned with their business goals and objectives. This sponsor receives recognition commensurate with the level of support they are providing.
Corporate Relations identifies properties within the university that can bring value to a business and provide an opportunity for the business to sponsor. These properties are identified and linked to various businesses based on the strategic objectives of the business. We also identify businesses within the community who could benefit from a sponsorship with the university. It is through these activities that a sponsor acquisition results.
Due to the university’s vast demographic scan, there are many sponsorship opportunities available to the corporate community which can clearly align with a specific target audience. Properties, activities, and events are identified that can be packaged and presented to prospective sponsors interested in the student market. If a business is more aligned with an older target audience, other unique properties are identified and presented.
‘A’ British Columbia
'A' British Columbia is proud to partner with UVic as a sponsor of the Vikes, Legacy Awards and Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year. We are Vancouver Island's local television station, providing residents with programming that's relevant to their lives. Well-known television anchor Hudson Mack hosts our award-winning 'A' News broadcasts, weeknights at 5, 6:30 and 11 pm, while Andrew Johnson helms weekends at 6 pm. We applaud the University of Victoria for their leadership in research, excellence in teaching and the real-life learning experiences they offer students in a spectacular Island setting.Times Colonist
The Times Colonist is an originating sponsorship partner with the University of Victoria. We are proud of our long standing relationship including the support provided to UVic athletics & recreational services and events such as the Legacy Awards. In addition to the traditional editorial and advertising support that the Times Colonist provides for these events we have also partnered on a unique awareness program focused around the "Knowledge" ads in the paper. The goal of this program is to highlight UVic's world class academic leadership and positive economic and social impact on Victoria and the Province. UVic is a founding partner in the Times Colonist's "Green Guide". Distributed twice yearly the Green Guide is Victoria's most read sustainability publication.Thrifty Foods
Thrifty Foods' philosophy is to do things to help build the kind of world we'd like to live in - today, tomorrow and for the best future we can all hope to achieve, together.
One of our oldest supporters at the University of Victoria, Thrifty Foods has invested generously in our community by hiring co-op students, supporting recreation programs, cheering on our Vikes athletes, and donating to the UVSS Food Bank.
In 2008, Thrifty Foods, along with the University of Victoria and participating Community Recreation Centres, launched The Nutrition for You program. These seminars help participants learn about food shopping, food preparation and how to interpret label ingredients. With financial support from Thrifty Foods, and effectiveness research conducted by the University of Victoria, 17 participating Community Recreation Centres are able to offer nutritional seminars to the general public.
