The mandate of Government Relations is to promote the relevance
of research and teaching at the University of Victoria to government
in order to gain support and funding for base budgets, major projects,
research activities and priorities as identified by the University.
To this end the Department works with the President and Executive
members to develop and enhance positive working relationships
with all levels of governments.
Government Relations serves to:
- Act as a resource to senior administration and the University
community by providing advice, workable solutions and strategies
that will ensure UVic is successful in its relationship with
government.
- Monitor policy changes that have implications for the University,
identify and stay informed of new opportunities as announced
by government.
- Collaborate with other universities and university associations
to ensure that the education interests of UVic and post secondary
education are well represented.
- Responsible for filing monthly returns ensuring that UVic is in compliance with the Federal Lobby Act.
The Government Relations Department at UVic was established in
2004.
