UVic has built a strong reputation as one of Canada’s leading universities. We offer a unique learning environment based on our deep commitment to meeting the changing needs of society and our growing student body.
We recognize the special role UVic can play in relation to Canada’s Indigenous peoples. We continue to build on our commitment to and our greatly valued relationship with Indigenous communities. It is our university’s goal to be the university of choice for Indigenous students.
Our First Peoples House, a priority of our strategic plan, was completed in August 2009. The house provides an academic and cultural centre for Indigenous students, and a welcoming space on campus for the broader community.
Extensive consultations with local Indigenous communities and the campus community informed the design and planning for this striking addition to the centre of our campus. The house will play an important role in linking UVic with the community in the years ahead.

President and Vice-Chancellor
