Outlines for the Faculty of Engineering
Software Engineering (Three-term schedule)
For students attending a university for the first time, the faculty highly recommends a three-term schedule. The first year of the program can be completed over three terms (Fall, Spring & Summer) or two terms (Fall & Spring). The three-term schedule allows students to consider other life commitments, such as part-time work, family commitments, sports, transition to the Victoria area, and/or transition to post secondary studies. The summer term is designated to be lighter than the other terms.

Co-op is mandatory for the BEng or BSEng programs and students are required to complete 4 work terms (16 months) before graduation. Co-op is optional for most CSC programs and students are admitted during the second half of first year.

Yes. You won’t have registration access to all of the required first year Engineering courses, but you do have access to a number of them and to courses that are equivalents to our first year courses in preparation for applying to transfer. The courses that we recommend you take to address most of the first year Engineering requirements are:
The courses above address most of the first year Engineering requirements. You won’t have access to MATH 110, ENGR 141 , ENGR 110, ENGR 112, ENGR 120 or ENGR 121, which are reserved for Engineering students. If you have the time, and the pre-requisites, we also recommend that you take MATH 211 (an acceptable substitute for MATH 110). You can apply to transfer into second year. If admitted, transfer students usually end up taking a mix of the missing first and second year courses over the first 8-12 months in the program. As part of the admissions process, we’ll give you a recommended registration schedule and suggest the timing of your first work term. Transferring into the program can be competitive as there are limited spaces available. As an estimate, you should be attaining a "B" average to be in the cut-off range for transfer. Minimum transfer GPAs will vary depending on the program area of interest. Courses must be at a “C” or better to be transferred into the Engineering program. Achievement of the minimum, however, does not guarantee admission. The re-registration application transfer form is due to Records Services by April 30.

Yes. Colleges throughout British Columbia offer first-year university transfer programs in Engineering. Students who successfully complete one of these programs are eligible for admission to second year Engineering at UVic if they have attained an overall standing of at least 67%. Please consult with the Faculty of Engineering, Admissions/Advising Officer for more details. You can also access the information about course equivalencies through the BC Transfer Guide online at www.bctransferguide.ca.
New student applications are due to Undergraduate Admissions Services by April 30.
I have successfully completed an Engineering Technology Diploma program. Can I transfer in to the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Software Engineering program?
I have successfully completed an Engineering Technology Diploma program. Can I transfer in to the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Software Engineering program?
On successful completion of the appropriate six-month Engineering Bridge program offered at Camosun College, students with two-year diplomas in Electronics or Mechanical or Computer Technology may be admitted to the third year of a BEng program. Applications to the Engineering Bridge program are due to Camosun College by February 15. The Faculty of Engineering reviews all applications to the Bridge and confirms conditional offers to start the Bridge courses at Camosun for courses starting in June of each year. Students who meet the conditions of admission and performance standards of the Engineering Bridge are offered admission to start third year in the following January term.

The BEng and BSEng programs normally take 4 years and 8 months to complete all the required academic and co-op requirements. The BSc for non-co-op students has a normal completion time of 3 years and 8 months.

Yes, within limits. The programs are structured in such a way that part time studies must be arranged on a case by case basis.

Is Software Engineering only for BEng or BSEng Students?
No. Both Computer Science and Computer Engineering offer Software Engineering options. Students outside the Faculty of Engineering may also take some SENG courses. See calendar course descriptions for details.
