At the History Social, organized by The History Undergraduate Society on 1 April 2011, THUGS was proud to announced that Dr. Kristin Semmens was the 2010-2011 Most Valuable Professor. The MVP Award is voted by history students.

Congratulations to Dr. Simon Devereaux!

Dr. Devereaux has been awarded the prestigious Pacific Coast Conerence on British Studies (PCCBS) Article Prize, 2009-2010. This prize is awarded yearly for the best article published by a member of PCCBS. Dr. Devereaux's article was published in the February 2009 Issue of Past & Present entitled "Recasting the Theatre of Execution: The Abolition of the Tyburn Ritual."

MCRI Project Success with UVic members

Zhongping Chen has received news that the application for an MCRI project "The Indian Ocean World: The Making of the First Global Economy in the Context of Human-Environment Interaction" has been successful in the final round of competition and has received 2.5 million dollars over 7 years. The principal investigator is Professor Gwyn Campbell of McGill University, with nine co-investigators from four Canadian universities and one institute as well as two universities in Germany and Australia. The UVic team includes Zhongping as a co-investigator and Greg Blue and Ying Liu of the McPherson Library as collaborators.

Congratulations to Zhongping and Greg and the entire team.
