THE MAUREEN DOBBIN SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $500 is awarded to the student in a Majors or Honours program in History who best combines academic excellence with contributions to the University and/or the community. A one-page letter of application for this scholarship must be submitted each year to the Department of History by April 15th. MICHIEL HORN SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $2,500 is awarded to a 3rd or 4th year Honours History or Honours History/English student. Preference will be given to a student who can demonstrate financial need. For details, scroll down to the Michiel Horn Scholarship at: registrar.uvic.ca/safa/scholarships/Test.html


SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL SCHOLARSHIP

The Department of History is please to announce a new scholarship, supported by the generosity of the Churchill Foundation Vancouver Island (CFVI). The Foundation aims to stimulate an appreciation of history and national and international affairs and to perpetuate the memory of the Right Honorable Sir Winston Spencer Churchill. To this end it has established a scholarship which is to be awarded annually to a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student majoring in History or Political Science who best exemplifies the character and qualities of Sir Winston Spencer Churchill, with empasis on leadership, courage, innovation, determination and magnanimity. DEADLINE for POLITICAL SCIENCE: February 26, 2010. DEADLINE for HISTORY: February 28, 2011.

The Department of History awards committee will select the recipient from applicants in History who best meet these criteria through their activites on campus and in the community. Students are invited to apply to the Chair of the Department of History with a letter and supporting documentation describing how they meet the criteria.
