There will be occasions when you may need to advertise your posting in order to ensure a strong pool of external applicants. The request for career advertising is located on the bottom section of page 2 of uHire requisitions.
By working closely with recruitment communications specialists, we are able to keep current on emerging trends, statistics, and updates on recruiting communication strategies.
Target Audience/Publication/Organization:
Although advertising in print has historically been the medium of choice, electronic advertising has become common place and found to be more successful.
Targeting the appropriate audience is key to the success of recruitment communications. We can assist you in identifying or researching suitable advertising targets beyond those that we pay for.
PLEASE NOTE: Off campus advertising independently arranged by departments must be consistent in design, layout and content with that published by HR and must be published in conjunction with a posting on HR's career opportunities web page.
Format:
The formatting of advertising must be in line with the University's advertising and communications policy. It is a requirement that certain formatting elements such as logo, UVic Shield, font, borders, etc. are kept consistent with policies. Notwithstanding these requirements, there are options available to customize the formats of career advertisements,and we can assist you with alternative formats/layouts that are still in keeping with the University's branding.
Contents:
As with formatting, contents of career advertisements require consistency with the University's policies pertaining to recruitment, advertising and communications. Certain textual elements such as equity statement, reference to Human Resources' web site, etc. are required. Human Resources can assist you with compiling and customizing the textual content of your advertisement.
Formal Advertising:
HR puts effort into supporting equity and ensuring that the university’s career opportunities site garners attention through both informal and formal communications with a variety of stakeholders. Additional, strategic efforts currently include Workopolis, Equitek and LinkedIn.
Should you feel that your opportunity may not draw the required qualified pool of applicants contact HR for additional advertising through Workopolis, LinkedIn or other online or print options. Please note that additional advertising may be charged back to departments.
