About Administrative Support Services
Administrative Support Services provides temporary clerical or secretarial
assistance to UVic departments during periods of vacation, sick
leave, overload, special projects, or other similar circumstances.
Administrative Support Services staff are employed on a casual, on-call basis,
with no guarantee of assignments.

Classification of Assignments/Positions
Each assignment is classified persuant to the latest collective
agreement according to the duties and responsibilities involved.
Wage Rates and Hours of Work
Rates are hourly and are
paid in accordance with the current C.U.P.E. 951
Collective Agreement.
Usual full-time hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. with one hour for lunch. Part-time hours usually fall
anywhere within this period and include a minimum of four hours
per day.
Length of Assignments
The length of each assignment can vary from a minimum of
four hours to a maximum of 22 days. In extenuating circumstances,
assignments may be extended beyond the maximum.
Statutory Holidays
Statutory holiday pay is provided on a pro-rated basis
subject to the following conditions:
- the holiday does not occur during the first thirty calendar
days of employment with Administrative Support Services
- any applicable provision or limitation contained in the Employment
Standards Act or the current collective agreement is met.
Time Off
Administrative Support Services offers the flexibility of time off as required.
The employee is asked only to advise in advance of the dates that
he or she will not be available for work.
Where an employee is unable to report for an assigned job, the
Coordinator of Administrative Support Services must be advised as soon as possible
so a replacement can be found.
Union Membership and Dues
All Administrative Support Services employees are required to to become
members of CUPE Local 951. There is an initial $10.00 membership
fee and dues are 2.29% of gross earnings plus 50 cents per paycheque.
Vacation Pay
4% vacation pay is accrued on gross earnings.
