PLEASE NOTE: This certificate program is currently under development. The following topics are samples of areas that will be structured into a more formal certificate program.
Purpose: The learning in this program is designed to help participants increase their effectiveness in administrative roles at UVic.
Target: This learning is appropriate for Department Secretaries, Administrative Assistants, Office Clerks and others in administrative roles. Administrative Officers and those in other management roles are also welcome to attend.
TOPICS: (Most of the topics will run an average of 2-3 hrs)
1. Financial Management
- PURCHASING "At Your Service" Your Acquiring Goods and Services (surplus assets, online ordering, invoice processing, WEBReq, procurement cards, non-employee travel).
- Making non-salary payments and reimbursements (i.e. petty cash, business firm retainers forms, cheque requisitions, relocation expenses, determining the EE/ER relationship, professional development expenses, grad support payments, scholarships, etc)
- Recording sales of goods and services by University (i.e. accounts receivable, taxes – HST, banking and cash management, revenue collection – daily cash reports and remittance to Accounting)
- Accounting 101 and FAST - Managing a budget and FAST accounts (i.e. fund accounting, chart of accounts, transfers (JE form), reconciliations)
