The Department of History at the University Victoria consists
of 29 regular faculty, five adjunct faculty, plus sessional instructors.
It offers a rich variety of undergraduate courses at the introductory
and senior level. The main areas of instruction are Canadian, British,
European, American and Asian history over the period from the Middle
Ages to the present. The department is also developing a programme
in world history. At the introductory level, instruction is normally
in the lecture format. Advanced courses frequently combine lectures
and seminars. On a rotating basis, faculty members also offer seminars
for small groups of students which permit extensive research and
discussion on select themes.
