Direct object pronouns

Often direct object pronouns are used instead of direct objects if the direct object is known and/or already mentioned. Using lo or la (it) or los or las (them), for example, instead of the proper names, saves time and energy; and since the object is known already, there is usually little confusion about what it or them refers to.

Attention: Direct object pronouns are usually placed in front of a conjugated verb.The pronoun must agree in gender and number with the noun it replaces.

Yo compro la pluma. I buy the pen.
Yo la compro. I buy it.

Attention: In sentences using conjugated verbs and infinitives (-ar, -er, -ir) or the present progressive, direct object pronouns are either placed before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive.

Yo lo puedo hacer.
I can do it.
No podemos aceptarlo.
we cannot accept it.
Lo estamos estudiando.
We are studying it.
Están escribiéndolo.
They are writing it.
