IDC is the technology transfer and industry liaison office for the University of Victoria and five other post-secondary and research institutions on Vancouver Island.

We provide a comprehensive suite of services vital to the intellectual property (IP) protection and technology commercialization process. IDC assists with:

IDC is a private corporation wholly owned by the University of Victoria. IDC was created in 1992 to serve as a vehicle for protecting IP developed through UVic research and moving it into the private sector. Since then IDC has grown and now has partnerships to serve not only the wider UVic community, but also faculty, staff and students from Vancouver Island University, Camosun College, Royal Roads University, North Island College, and VIHA’s Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health. IDC also has a technology transfer partnership with Shizuoka University in Shizuoka, Japan.

Vision

The vision of IDC is to be:

  • the lead organization in technology development and commercialization for UVic and Vancouver Island,
  • a first point of contact for industry seeking to collaborate on research or license technologies, and
  • an integral component of economic growth and development for Greater Victoria and Vancouver Island.

Mission

The mission of IDC is to facilitate the transfer of research from UVic and our partner institutions to the private sector. IDC acts as an interface between post-secondary institutions, researchers, industry partners and government bodies by providing professional technology transfer and industry liaison services.

Goals

  1. Sustain a productive and interactive dialogue with the entire academic community.
  2. Support large and small scale research, student initiatives and community development projects.
  3. Increase the profile of our partner institutions and IDC in the private sector and wider business community.
  4. Design and implement sustainable technology transfer models and strategies.
  5. Support the development of Vancouver Island as an “innovation cluster” and play a lead role in the economic diversification of the Island region.
