I was raised in the traditional territories of the Lekwungen Peoples by my mother, Luanna Larusson, who is a third generation Canadian of Danish and Icelandic ancestry. As ASP Coordinator at the Office of Indigenous Affairs, I am part of a team that is responsible for providing Indigenous students with the supports and services they may need in order to be successful here at UVic. Gina Starblanket
ASP Project Coordinator
Tansi, my name is Gina Starblanket. I'm Cree and Saulteaux from the Star Blanket Cree Nation on my mother's side and French and German on my father's side. I've been a visitor on Coast and Strait Salish Territories for 5 years and recently finished writing a Master's thesis that highlights the need to understand violence against Indigenous women as an issue of rights so as to adapt dominant legal and political mechanisms to provide protection against their infringement. My position at the Office of Indigenous Affairs mainly involves creating and delivering programming and services that are geared towards enhancing access, retention, and completion for Indigenous learners at UVic. Swing by my office in FPH 139 to share feedback about current programs and services or to make suggestions about new ones. Hope to see you soon!
