“I have worked with the technology transfer office for several years. I have found that they have a good sense for what constitutes significant intellectual property, and they know how to bring together academic scientists with commercial partners who can develop the IP. The technology transfer office staff has been extraordinarily helpful in finding opportunities for me and my research team members to meet with industry representative, and have often garnered the funding to support travel of my group members to important technology meetings. The technology transfer office was also instrumental in helping one of my students start a biotechnology spin-off company.”

I have worked with The University of Victoria’s technology transfer office (UVic IP) for approximately three years on various projects that have the potential for commercialization. I have found their attitude to be professional and enthusiastic, and they have been very successful and extremely thorough in seeking out industrial collaborators and arranging productive affiliations with these collaborators. In particular, these industrial collaborations have extended the research projects in ways which would have been unattainable without their assistance. They have been proactive in protecting intellectual property that has arisen through our research by promptly filing patents, and they have expert knowledge in the legal aspects of patent filing and associated material transfer and technology transfer agreements. Overall my dealings with the University of Victoria’s technology transfer office have been extremely positive, and their assistance with my research endeavours has been invaluable.
