Directed research projects involve the development and conduct of a research plan to answer a research question presented by a sponsor. Usually the research is conducted at the University under the supervision and direction of a faculty member. Subject to the wishes of the researchers involved, intellectual ownership and/or specified access rights can be provided to the sponsor, but University policies and practices respecting research and academic rights and publication apply absent extraordinary circumstances.
