Research Services

Research Services contracts cover research activities where an established methodology or system is applied without the expectation of generating new discoveries or inventions. Running tests against samples provided is an example. In the ordinary course intellectual property is not expected to arise from these activities. To the extent it does, intellectual property associated with or related to the methodology employed by the University would reside with the University whereas intellectual property associated with the material or information produced would reside with the sponsor.

The University has more flexibility around publication limitations and research and academic licenses in relation to research services agreements but the terms and conditions will be subject to University policy and, therefore, may be different than what would be expected in an agreement with a commercial provider of a comparable service.
