We're pleased to announce the grand prize winners of our one-time Twitter Memoir Contest!
Congratulations to Ross McKie and Amy Roher Antonini!
Ross McKie's winning tweet:
He handed me the roseroot tea. I drank the roseroot tea. I slept deeply. The next day my hormones were no longer mimicked.
Ross selected Curationism: How Curating Took Over The Art World and Everything Else by David Balzer (Coach House Books); Chamber Music: The Poetry of Jan Zwicky ed. by Darren Bifford and Warren Heiti (Wilfrid Laurier University Press); and The Grande Dames of the Cariboo by Julie Fowler (Caitlin Press) as his book prizes.
Amy Roher Antonini's winning tweet:
The tour is done. We sleep in each other's clothes. I quit smoking and hope to age gently, like Paris.
Amy selected Brazilian Journal by P. K. Page (Porcupine’s Quill); The Mystery Shopping Cart: Essays on Poetry and Culture by Anita Lahey (Palimpsest Press); and The Deaf House by Joanne Weber (Thistledown Press) as her book prizes.
The Twitter Memoir contest ran between January 9 and April 24, 2015 and was supported by the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society and the Greater Victoria Public Library. The rules: capture a fleeting moment in your life—comic or disturbing, bathetic or inspiring—in 140 characters or less, then tweet it to #140memoir. Note: that’s a zero in “140,” not a letter O.
The grand prize winners were chosen in time for the Malahat's annual WordsThaw literary symposium, and the CNFC's annual conference, both held in Victoria this past spring.
