Kennedy Halwa is a lover of words first and a writer second. She is a fourth year creative writing student at the University of Victoria, focussing in creative nonfiction, but she loves to play in poetry on the side. Before moving to the island for her studies, she was raised in Sylvan Lake, Alberta (Treaty 6 and 7). With this experience, her work often discusses the ever-changing relationships with oneself, themes of queer experience, and self-discovery. She has been published in UVic’s This Side of West journal, and has previously self published a collection of poetry. In her spare time, Kennedy is often involved with the local live music scene, and enjoys crafting jewelry out of secondhand cutlery. Kennedy hopes to continue connecting with people through the various artful practices she experiences in her life.
