Rhonda's been on The Malahat’s poetry board since she came aboard as Assistant Editor in 2004. Reading poetry submissions is the most pleasurable “task” she has at the magazine, particularly work from emerging writers. When not perusing submissions, her personal reading tends to be far-ranging: from mysteries (Ian Rankin, Peter Robinson) to memoirs (Stephen Fry, Anthony Burgess); creative nonfiction (John Vaillant, Theresa Kishkan); and so many novelists and poets it’s hard to name just a few, although Martin Amis is probably her all-time favourite prose stylist and she's a sucker for Irish poetry (Yeats, Eavan Boland, Paul Durcan…). As a writer herself, she acknowledges the heart and soul that goes into every submission and only wishes our pages were unlimited. Write on!
