Instructions for using the Video Data Projector

The Video Data Projector is required to project images from personal laptops or videos onto the front screen.

To use the Video Data Projector (VDP): Open the small cabinet on the teaching desk at the front of the room. Inside you will see a video player and a small box with buttons on it. Press the ON button for 5 seconds - this will start the VDP which is located on the ceiling of the classroom. It will take approximately 45 seconds for the projector to warm up.

VIDEO
To show a video, after you have turned on the VDP (see above), press the VIDEO button on the small box inside the cabinet. Next, load the video and press play. When you are finished, please press the OFF button on the small box inside the cabinet in order to turn off the VDP. Lock the cabinet to prevent theft.

LAPTOP
To use your laptop, after you have turned on the VDP (see above), press the DATA button on the small box inside the cabinet. Next, plug your laptop to the projector by attaching the (VGA) cable that comes out of the top of the desk to the corresponding port on the laptop. From time to time, the external monitor may need to be manually selected on your laptop to be able to project an image (even if you have used your laptop multiple times and have never had to do so before) – you can either access your graphics program or use the corresponding function key to toggle the screen. If you are using sound in your presentation, you will need to insert the audio cable into the headphone jack on your laptop. To control the volume, make sure your laptop volume is at maximum and then use the dial located on the desk top to adjust the room sound to an appropriate level - this room is to be upgraded shortly, so the volume knob may still be inside the cabinet on a mixer (make sure the mixer is powered on). If you cannot hear your laptop, unplug the audio cable to check that you can hear the sound coming directly from your laptop - you should be able to hear your laptop volume until the audio cable is plugged in.When you are finished, please press the OFF button on the small box inside the cabinet in order to turn off the VDP. Lock the cabinet to prevent theft.

*It is important that the VDP is turned OFF after use.*

Using the Wireless Microphone:

The wireless microphone is located inside the cabinet. Clip the microphone close to your mouth and the mic unit onto your belt area. Turn the mic on using the ON/OFF switch located on top of the unit. The volume for the mic is on the amplifier which is in the cabinet. Make sure that the AMP is on and that the mic and master volume are set at a moderate levels. Please turn the microphone off and return it to the cabinet when finished.

If you experience any problems with the equipment in this room, please call Audio Visual Services at 721-8292.
