16mm Projector

16mm projector

The Hokushin 16mm Film Projector has optical sound, bass & treble controls and a speaker out (phone jack). It comes with a take-up reel and a spare bulb (ELC).

To thread film

There is a diagram on the side of the projector that will help you see how the film is threaded. To begin, make sure that the projector is plugged in. Next, take the side cover off of the projector, extend the two arms that hold the reels and place the empty reel on the arm that is at the back of the projector. Make sure that the reel is securely set on the spindle. Put your film reel on the front arm of the projector (the one closest to the lens), making sure that it is set on the spindle so that you can turn the locking clip.

Pull at least an arms length of film from the front reel and insert it through the projector by following the black lines. There is a dial just below the lens that should be in the OPEN position. Bring the end of the film to the take up reel and hook it through the slot on the centre of the reel. Turn the back reel a few times to wrap the film securely in place - this will keep the film from coming loose. You should now be able to turn the take up reel, allowing the film reel to move freely.

Sound

Firstly, you will need to turn on the sound control. It's located at the back of the projector, right next to the treble and bass controls. With some older films you will have to adjust these controls for the best sound.

You are now ready to show your film. Turn the dial below the lens from OPEN to SET (this locks the film sprockets into the gears on the projector) and then move it to FORWARD (this starts the projector) and finally to the LAMP position. Now you will see the film projected on the screen. Use the FOCUS knob if the image is out of focus. If the image is too low or high on the screen, you can move the projection with the tilt adjustment at the front of the projector. The FRAME dial is located to the left of the focus knob. This adjusts the lateral position of the frame on the film.

If the film is unstable, use the automatic loop restorer. It resets the lower film loop automaticly when the loop is shaky due to damaged or defective film. Simply pull the blue roller that located above the threading diagram on the side of the projector. A few quick taps should restore any jittery film.

Rewinding

If you need to rewind before the end of the film, turn the control switch to SET position to stop film movement. Then, turn the switch to the REW position. The film will quickly rewind through the threaded path. If the film has finished and the entire film is on the back reel, simply thread the film onto the front reel without going through the projector. Turn the control switch to REW.
