We have two Video Data Projectors (VDP) in our rental stock.
To project using the VDP and a laptop, you must:
1. Turn on the VDP
2. Attach the VGA cable to your laptop
3. Plug in your AC power for your laptop
4. Turn on your laptop from the off position, not from standby
These steps must be done in the order shown above. If you have not followed these steps in sequence, you may have to restart your computer in order to display an image.
Still No Image?
Ensure that the “data” button or the “laptop” icon has been selected. For rooms with “data” buttons, push the “data” button up to 3 times in case there are different “data” channels available, waiting 5 seconds between each selection.
PC Troubleshooting Suggestions
- Check to make sure your laptop is set no higher than 1024 x 768.
(TO DO SO - Right click on your desktop -> select ‘properties’ -> select ‘settings’. If you see another option called ‘graphic properties’ when you right click on your desktop, you must select that option and change the resolution setting there, as well as select dual display)
- Make sure that your laptop is not using the ‘extended desktop’ option.
(TO DO SO – Right click on your desktop -> select ‘properties’ -> select ‘settings’ -> select screen ‘2’ -> uncheck extended desktop option)
- Use the function key (fn) on your laptop to toggle between display types.
(TO DO SO – Hold the function key and press the designated F-key. The designated F-key might have a picture on it of a monitor (a square) or a monitor, backslash and a computer (a square / two squares on top of each other) or the letters CRT/LCD. Release both keys and wait 10 seconds. If the laptop screen goes dark and the image comes through the VDP, follow this step again to project an image on both screens)
Mac Troubleshooting Suggestions
- Click the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner
- Select ‘System Preferences’
- Select ‘Displays’
At this point, make sure the pixel setting does not exceed 1024x768. Next, check to see if there is a tab option labeled ‘Arrangement’. On that page, ensure that ‘mirror image’ is selected. If there is not an ‘Arrangement’ option, this means that the laptop is not recognizing that there is a VDP connected.
From this point, restart the computer and go through the above again. After that, if you still do not see the word ‘Arrangement’ as a tab option, do the following:
For Mac Book Pro
- Turn off the computer
- Unplug AC adapter
- Eject battery from underneath
- Press and hold the ‘power on/off’ button for 8 seconds
- Reload battery and plug in AC adapter
- Restart computer
For iBook
- Press and hold the shift, control and alt buttons, while also turning the laptop off
- Restart computer
If the laptop does not automatically connect with the VDP, retry the steps listed at the beginning. If you still do not see ‘Arrangement’ as a tab option, the problem may be cable or laptop related.
