Andrew Armitage

Hello, my name is Andrew Armitage. I am here to support you in your studies, student life and faith journey.

I am new to the chaplaincy this year and have been on campus for 20 years serving students. Whether it is studies, family, student life, career conversations or the spiritual journey I would welcome the opportunity to meet and connect.

I can also help you connect with other student Christian groups and to nearby congregations.

Looking forward to meeting you,
Andrew

Faith Journey

Born into an Anglican family I began my own faith journey at a Billy Graham rally in London in 1954. For 10 years I was an evangelical Anglican and began to prepare for ordained ministry. This part of my journey fell apart while studying theology at Cambridge.

Today I am committed to understanding the revelation of God provided by Jesus Christ and to continue my journey. I respect too all others who seek understanding of the presence of God in their lives. Theologically I am a liberal – seeking to apply the timeless lessons of the Bible in the context of all we now know of people, the natural world, and the many diverse expressions of humanity.

I remain a practicing Anglican as that is my tradition, but I gladly join in study and worship with all who make a spiritual journey a part of their life.

Counselling

If you need advice or guidance I am ready to help. The campus has many specialized resources and often what is needed is help to find the right one.

I try to be a good listener and guarantee that you will be treated with care and respect in any matter that you talk to me about.

All conversations with me are private and confidential except where the law or university policy requires otherwise. It is unlikely that disclosure would ever be necessary – but if so, you would be informed.

My professional background is social work.

Mentoring and Practicums

I would be pleased to help you in your studies and research.

Would you like to write about the church, religious issues, or your faith in your assignments? I can provide you with contacts and advice.

Are you in a program where a practicum is required? Perhaps we could think together about practicum opportunities within the church and its agencies.

For Parents

I am here to serve your son or daughter. However, if you are on campus, I would be pleased to meet you, and I welcome inquiries about the chaplaincy or suggestions of how I might be of service. I was nominated for the position of Anglican Chaplain by the Bishop. My service is part time and voluntary.

My home church is St Georges, Cadboro Bay where I have just (2011) ended a 6 year term as a Warden. The church is close by the university and if you are in Victoria you will be very welcome to join us for Sunday worship.

See the link to St Georges for more information about our church.
