Sustainability Discussion Circles

Interested in being part of a Sustainability Discussion Circles at UVic this term?  It is easy to join!  To sign up simply pick the discussion circle you would like to be part of and click the correct doodle link below.  Then indicate all the times you are available.

What are the Discussion Circles? Join one of our discussion circles and learn practical ways of living more sustainably on this amazingly creative and sadly stressed earth of ours. The discussion circles are a great way to meet with other students and explore these issues in an informal and relaxed setting.  At the same time you learn about one of the most important issues of our time – how we humans must learn to live with greater integrity and deeper consciousness on our fragile earth.  You may know this stuff already, but the readings and the discussions will give you the language to express and personal strategies to act on deeply held values.  No exams!

How does it work?
Each circle group of 6-8 students meets once a week over 5-7 weeks using a resource book to spark discussion. Each week they discuss a short chapter. The circle groups are student run and facilitated. Participation in discussion circles is free, book cost is $30.00, available from Henri at the Multifaith Office and the first session of each group. (with the option to sell it back for $25 in good condition).  Each group sets their own meeting time and place for the meeting.

What topics will we discuss?
We are offering three discussion circles this term:  Voluntary Simplicity, Re-connecting with the Earth, and Choices for Sustainable Living (Follow the links to the Canadian Earth Institute website for mere detailed descriptions):

Voluntary Simplicity Explore the values that sustain a simple life-style

Reconnecting with EarthDiscover how personal beliefs and values affect the way we view and treat the earth

Choices for Sustainable Living Learn about steps that can be taken to move toward ecologically sustainable organizations, lifestyles, and communities

This is the 11th year that these circles have been offered through the Multifaith Office at UVic, in conjunction with the Canadian Earth Institute http://www.canadianearthinstitute.org/

I hope you can join a group this year.

Trying to keep it simple,

Henri
