Catholic Mass
When attending a Catholic Mass, a good maxim is "when in Rome, be like the Romans". If not Catholic, you are most welcome to attend a celebration of the Holy Eucharist and participate as much as you're able and comfortable. It might be an idea to sit at the back and observe others as they sit, stand, kneel, etc. While welcome to particpate in the prayers and songs, the one thing that is reserved for practicing Catholics is the reception of Holy Communion. The communion in the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ assumes full knowledge and full communion with the Catholic Church. A local custom for both Catholics and non-Catholics who are not receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, is to join the line of people going forward and crossing their arms over their chest, which indicates a request for a prayer of blessing. After, or before the Mass, you can always quietly ask a member of the congregation or the priest for any explanations you might need. God bless, Fr. Dean
