OCBR has attracted a diverse range of people working for and supporting our work. Staff, contractors, a local community-university steering committee, a global advisory, 20 student interns, hundreds of volunteers and thousands of participants have been involved in our education and training events, forums, research projects and conferences.

Maeve Lydon is focused on developing capacity, campus-community partnerships and programs for CBR. She brings experience working with a wide range of local and global community development, human rights and sustainability groups. Maeve has a particular passion for public education/engagement using participatory learning, community mapping and holistic planning.

Linda Geggie

Community Food
Linda Geggie is OCBR project coordinator for food security and sustainability work with a particular focus on research and action for improving Vancouver Island’s local food production.

Tricia Roche

Community Housing
Tricia Roche is OCBR's project coordinator for housing and homelessness with particular focus on supporting Vancouver island and BC research, partnership and policy efforts to create sustainable housing. Tricia has worked for many local and global non-profits focused on children and youth, human rights, poverty and community development. Tricia loves being a Mom, art, walking, camping and beaches.

John Lutz

Dr. John Lutz comes to OCBR through the UVic History Department. He has been involved in many community based research projects, particularly through the Coasts Under Stress project where he worked in the First Nations communities of Hartley Bay and Alert Bay and through the Ethnohistory Field School Course with the Sto:lo First Nation.

Nirmala Lall

Evaluation and impact
Nirmala is the coordinator of the GACER project-the global CBR network, a PhD student and sessional instructor with the UVic faculty of Education. Her PhD work is focused on CBR and the creation of an impact framework for OCBR. Nirmala brings a long history of work in intercultural communication and community development in Canada.

Dr. Robin June Hood is an educator, documentary filmmaker, naturalist and network weaver. Robin has developed curriculum for many UVic and CBR projects including Le Nonet.

Communications and Community Mapping
Ken has been part of the University of Victoria since 1983, working as a cartographer and graphic artist in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Geography. Participatory design, community engagement and mapping have been his primary focus and interest for the last 8 years.

Tom is working with the OCBR to inventory community and campus research related to aboriginal food and health and to support related CBR initiatives and events such as the April 2010 Traditional Foods Conference.

Academic programming Catherine Etmanski is an educator, facilitator, and consultant in the Greater Victoria area. She came on board with the OCBR to run a series of lunchtime workshops in collaboration with the Learning and Teaching Centre. Her primary role is to engage the UVic community in conversations about the practice and theory of community-based and community-engaged research (CBR/CER).

Maureen Duncan Community Fellow at OCBR

Maureen completed her four years as Community Co-Chair of the OCBR Steering Committee in June 2011.  Since her retirement as CEO of the United Way of greater Victoria  in March 2010 she has volunteered  at OCBR sharing her governance, business and professional skills and is delighted to continue her involvement as the first Community Fellow at OCBR, a new position for 2011-2013.
