Thanks for making CUexpo 2008 (held May 4-7, 2008 at UVic) such a big success!
On behalf of the organizing committees, the sponsors and all of our collaborating organizations, we would like to thank all of those who came to Victoria to make CUexpo 2008 such a wonderful event. Check out the CUexpo 2008 website for photos, presentations, and the Proceedings of CUexpo2008, a published collection of papers edited by Profs. Darlene Clover and Catherine McGregor.
We had about 500 registered participants and another 100 volunteers and helpers, for just over 600 folks working together to make a difference in your communities, in your sectors or in your parts of the globe.
The Pan-Canadian Coalition on Community-Based Research was launched. It is an open forum that belongs to everyone. Please take a look at the launch document and share it with others. The Coalition will only work if it is needed and used. We will be putting up a new web site shortly, but welcome your involvement.
If you had to leave before the end, you can check out the closing ceremony and the launch of the Coalition at the Official Weblog of CUexpo 2008 and on Facebook.
The Global Alliance on Community-Engaged Scholarship was released as well. We would love to have it translated into as many languages as possible.
Two locations are thinking about organizing the next CUexpo, Waterloo and Calgary. They are also in touch with each other so that perhaps one or the other might go first. As all of the CUexpos have been in the west to date, it might be fun to have one in Central Canada next? Just a thought.
Please post your powerpoints, photos, video clips and blogs to the sites we suggested above.

CUexpo 2008: Resources
- Honouring Jannit Rabinovitch, PhD 1949-2007
Many people locally and globally are deeply saddened by the passing of Jannit Rabinovitch, who died on January 26 in Victoria. We at OCBR offer our condolences to her family.
Jannit was very well-known and regarded as a community activist and CBR pioneer. She dedicated her life to creating a voice and practical supports for those on the margins of our society: street people, sex trade workers, exploited youth and others. Jannit was also a pioneer scholar and researcher in the field of community-based research, community-university partnerships and social change. She worked with UVic research centres and enthusiastically helped the Office of Community-Based Research come to fruition through offering practical and academic support last year. She was very excited that it was being created as a space for change and partnership.
The OCBR Steering Committee will explore how best to honour Jannit’s legacy through its work in capacity building, research, support for community CBR scholars and practical project support.
