Student Funding

Our department has several sources of funding for graduate students. We are able to offer support in the form of university scholarships, department scholarships, teaching assistant -ships, and research assistantships. We also have a strong record in obtaining funding for students from external sources.

Secure funding for graduate students in PAAS includes:


  1. University of Victoria Fellowship, valued at $10,000 per annum (Faculty of Graduate Studies).
  2. Department Graduate Awards, valued at a minimum $5,000 per annum (Faculty of Graduate Studies).
  3. Several department graduate donor awards, valued from approximately $500 to $1500 per annum.
  4. Many Teaching Assistantships and Language Laboratory Assistantships with Graduate Teaching Fellowship Top-ups, valued at approximately $1000 - $8000 per annum.

Additional funding possibilities on campus include:


  1. C.A.P.I. language and research fellowships.
  2. International Office study grants.
  3. Pacific and Asian Studies Student Travel and Research Award.
  4. Graduate Student Travel Grant.
  5. Centre for Studies in Religion and Society - Ian Stewart Graduate Student Fellowship.
  6. SSHRC M.A. Fellowships
