She received her BA (1970) at Toyo University in Applied Sociology and M.Ed. (1974) at University of Massachusetts in Education (Teaching Japanese as a Second language).
She taught at University of Massachusetts as a Teaching lecturer, 1973-75; Manitoba Japanese-Canadian Cultural Association, Winnipeg Manitoba, 1976-79. Also taught at Parkland Secondary School, Sidney, B.C., Ministry of Education’s Japanese Curriculum Committee for Grade 4-7 and produced the Ministry’s Curriculum Guide for Grade 9-10 and a section included in the Japanese Resource Book on activities for beginning and intermediate-level students of Japanese 1988-1991.
She joined the Center for Pacific and Oriental Studies 1981 as a Sectional Lecture in 1981 and is presently, Senior Instructor of Japanese in the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies, Served as First-year Japanese language Coordinator and Advisor.
Teaching:
She has been teaching at the University of Victoria for 30 years, she has taught from beginner to upper-level of the Japanese language; recently she has been teaching at the intensive Japanese I, PAAS 130, Intensive Japanese II; PAAS 131 and Intermediate Japanese: I, PAAS 230.
Others:
Principal interest are teaching Japanese as a second language and Japanese culture. She is interested in Japanese historical novels during Kamakura to Edo periods. She is also licensed to teach Sadoo (Tea Ceremony) from Omote Senke in 1971, Kadoo (Flower Arrangement) from Seifuuheika in 1971 and Nichibu (Japanese Traditional Dance) from Bankdoo school in 1965.
