Year-by-Year Overview


1st Year


  • PAAS 100
  • Any class in Chinese, Japanese, or Indonesian language. (If you’re a native speaker or have studied these languages before, your choices will be a bit different.)
  • Any other 100 or 200 level class you’d like.

2nd Year


  • PAAS 200
  • Continuations of the Asian language that you chose in your 1st year.
  • Any other 100 or 200 level class you’d like.

3rd Year


  • One of: PAAS 300, PAAS 301, or PAAS 302
  • Language classes, if you’d like (highly recommended for all students)
  • Any other 300 or 400 level class you’d like.

4th Year


  • PAAS 400 (if you haven't taken 300, 301, or 302, you will take one of these, too)
  • Language classes, if you’d like (highly recommended for all students)
  • Any other 300 or 400 level class you’d like.

So, to sum up, our students will take:

  • PAAS 100
  • PAAS 200
  • One of PAAS 300, PAAS 301, or PAAS 302
  • 9 units of Chinese or Japanese language, or 6 units of Indonesian (plus three units of 100 -level culture classes)
  • 12 units of PAAS courses numbered 300 or higher
