Plan a degree
Students planning to take a major or honours degree in philosophy are advised to complete 100 in their first year of study. They are strongly advised to satisfy the logic requirement (at least two of 201, 203, 370) by the end of their second year of study. Students are advised that some 200-level courses (201, 203, 211, 220, 236, 240, 260) are prerequisites for advanced courses. Students are advised to take, in their second year of study the 200-level courses which are the prerequisites for the advanced courses they plan to take. Students intending to take a Major or Honours degree are strongly advised to discuss their plans with the Department's undergraduate advisor.
Streams in Philosophy
No undergraduate degree can do justice to all areas of philosophy. Students are advised to choose the bulk of their elective Philosophy courses from one of the following streams, rather than taking a smattering of courses from here and there within the discipline. The streams listed below provide only a rough guide to the principal areas of philosophy. Some courses are listed under more than one stream, and other courses could complement streams besides those in which they are listed. Students are advised to talk to the Philosophy Undergraduate Advisor when planning their programs.
