Student card

This is the key to many facilities at the University. Once you are registered you may obtain your student card (which serves as your Library Card, Bus Pass, and Athletics and Recreation Card) in the University Centre.

Medical and dental coverage

Graduate students are entitled to receive medical and dental coverage. If you already have extended medical and dental coverage and you wish to opt-out of UVic's coverage, you need to take proof of your coverage to the Grad Students Society by September 30. For more information, call 250-721-8816.

Library

Library Orientation sessions are be held at the McPherson Library in September. Register for a session by visiting the Reference Desk, or by calling 250-721-8274.

E-mail

It is essential that every graduate student have a current email address. You will be receiving important messages by email from the Graduate Advisor, the Graduate Secretary, members of your supervisory committee, and the instructors in your graduate courses. Fortunately, you are entitled to a free email account through NetLink. You can also set up mail forwarding from your UVic account.

Political Science common rooms

There are two common rooms available to faculty, staff, and students in the Department. SSM A303 is a library-style reading and research area. This space is designed to be a working environment, with course readings, academic journals, M.A. Theses and other print resources maintained on site. There are also three workstations that can be used by students with a valid netlink ID. SSM A355 is designed to serve as a department lounge. The room overlooks a rooftop garden, and boasts leather furniture and some kitchen facilities (microwave, coffeemaker, fridge). There is also a selection of periodicals and newspapers available. Rules governing the use and maintenance of both common-use areas are posted in the rooms.
