Bio

Amy Verdun is Professor and Chair of Political Science, Jean Monnet Chair Ad Personam and the Director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, at the University of Victoria, in Victoria BC, Canada where she has been since 1997. She holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute Florence Italy (1995). From 2007-2009 she was the Graduate Advisor in the Department of Political Science at Uvic. Her earlier appointments were at the University of Leiden (1991-1992) and at the University of Essex (1995-1996).

She is author or editor of fourteen books and has published in scholarly journals such as Acta Politica, British Journal of Politics and International Relations, European Union Politics, International Studies Review, Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of European Integration, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Public Policy and Review of International Political Economy. Two of her recent books are Globalization, Development and Integration Pompeo della Posta, and Amy Verdun (eds) (2009) (Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan); and Innovative Governance: The Politics of Multilevel Policymaking Ingeborg Toemmel and Amy Verdun (eds) (2009) (Boulder: Lynne Rienner). She has a book forthcoming with Cambridge University Press entitled Ruling Europe: The Politics of the Stability and Growth Pact co-authored with Martin Heipertz which is due to come out in March 2010.

Her earlier books include Britain and Canada and their Large Neighboring Monetary Unions (New York: Nova 2006); The Transatlantic Divide: Foreign and Security Policies in the Atlantic Alliance from Kosovo to Iraq, Osvaldo Croci and Amy Verdun (eds), (Manchester University Press, 2006); and The European Union in the Wake of Eastern Enlargement: Institutional and Policy-making Challenges, Amy Verdun and Osvaldo Croci (eds), (Manchester University Press, 2005) and European Responses to Globalization and Financial Market Integration: Perceptions of Economic and Monetary Union in Britain, France and Germany (Palgrave Macmillan 2000 and e-version 2008).

As of 1 July 2010 she will become co-editor of the Journal of Common Market Studies (with Michelle Cini, University of Bristol).

She has served in various capacities in professional associations. From 2005-2009 she was a Member of the Executive Committee of the US-based European Union Studies Association (served as its Secretary from 2007-2009 and its Treasurer from 2005-2007). From 1996-2006 she was Member of the Executive of the European Community Studies Association Canada (ECSA-C). From 2000-2006 she was the President of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) Research Committee 3 (RC-3) on European Unification. And from 2003-2006 she was Member of the European University Institute Alumni Association (EUI AA) Executive Committee.

Dr. Verdun has refereed articles for journals such as Acta Politica, Comparative European Politics, Canadian Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, European Journal of Political Research, Governance, Government and Opposition, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of European Integration, Journal of European Public Policy, Millennium, Politics, Review of International Studies, Review of Political Economy, St. Anthony's International Review, and West European Politics. She has refereed book manuscripts and proposals for Ashgate, Cambridge University Press, Cornell University Press, Kluwer Publishing, Lynne Rienner, Manchester University Press, MIT Press, Oxford University Press, Palgrave-Macmillan, Routledge, Rowman and Littlefield and Thomson publishers, as well as proposals for new journals for Sage and for Taylor and Francis.
