Office mandate

The duties and responsibilities of the President and Vice-Chancellor are summarized in the University Act.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the university, the President is responsible for providing overall leadership to the university. It is the President's responsibility to fulfill the vision and mission of the university. The President directs the operation of the University, including its academic work, business affairs, alumni relations, government relations and engagement with the broader community.

The President is a member of the convocation, an ex officio member of the Board of Governors and chair of the Senate. The President is also the chair of a number of other committees. The President reports annually to the Board of Governors and the Senate on the academic work of the university, the budget for operating and capital expenditure, and may make recommendations on any matters affecting the University. The President is an advocate for the university – locally, provincially and internationally.

The Executive Council of the university report directly to the President.
