Please join us as we remember LGBTQ youth who we’ve lost to suicide. Stand up to end homophobia, transphobia and intolerance of difference in our schools and our community.
When: October 20, 2010 at 7:00
Where: UVic’s Interfaith Chapel
The vigil will begin with a nondenominational service followed by a chance to tell our stories. Everyone is invited to share how hearing about the recent suicides of LGBTQ youth in the U.S. has affected us or how homophobia and transphobia has impacted our lives, our schools and our communities. And everyone is also invited to share ideas on how we can come together to make it better.
The date of this event was chosen to coincide with what is becoming known as “Spirit Day”. On this day people may wear purple, the colour from the LGBTQ flag that represents spirit, to honour the young gay men (and all LGBTQ youth) we’ve lost to suicide.
After the event, PSN executive members, Lynne Risk and Jessica Scott spoke on CFUV’s Women on Air. Check out the podcast about the vigil.
