Professor Tuokko joined the University of Victoria's Centre on Aging (COAG) and Department of Psychology in 1997. Between 1999 and 2002, she was the Associate Director of the COAG. Prior to that time she was the Supervising Psychologist at the University of British Columbia's (UBC) Clinic for Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders and a Clinical Associate Professor is the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at UBC. Her current research interests include: mental health challenges experienced by older adults; the impact these challenges have on everyday living; and how the needs of older adults with mental health challenges can be best met. In addition, her research examines the evolution of cognitive disorders in older adults and everyday competencies. Specific competencies of interest to her are driving, financial management, and end-of-life decision-making.
