In conjunction with UVic's Occupational Health and Safety Department (OHSO), Purchasing Services have established a hazardous material tracking system within Banner Purchasing, using the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) Commodity Code and product classification system. All products that are deemed to be hazardous have been labeled in the Banner Commodity Code table. When required, Purchasing Services will be able to run a report showing all products acquired by commodity and ship-to location. Commencing with 2004-05 purchasing commitments, all items ordered by way of, or through a formal purchase order will have a commodity code assigned by the respective Purchasing Officer. This will enable subsequent retrieval of key HAZCOM information.
