At its January 2002 meeting, UVic Senate approved major changes to the Professional Writing Program.

Effective July 1, 2002, the English Department and the Writing Department will offer separate minors. English will concentrate on Web-based and workplace writing; Writing will concentrate on journalism, publishing, and editing. New students will declare minors in one program or the other.

Students already in the PW minor will NOT be affected. They can continue to take courses from both departments and continue with Coop. Their transcripts and accreditation will be unaffected. They will have the option, however, of choosing one of the new minors.
