Summary of benefits to full and associate UVRA members

Some benefits are only available to UVRA members while others are offered to all retired UVic employees, many of which were negotiated by the UVRA with the University. Application for some benefits are made through the UVRA.  Many are automatic for retired UVic employees and no application is necessary. Some require a Retiree Photo ID card for identification.

Retiree Parking Permit

Campus parking permits are available to UVRA members at a rate set annually by Campus Security Services and the Board of Directors. UVRA General Reserve Parking permits for the year (September 1 to August 31) are available through Campus Security Services by presenting your UVic "Retiree" Photo ID Card at their office. Those needing a parking permit for a motorcycle or scooter should go directly to the Campus Security Office, which will issue the appropriate permit for the motorcycle, etc.

Please remember permits are intended for limited use and should not exceed 10% of normal business hours throughout the year - i.e. 3.5 hours per week or 14 hours per month. Also, permits are non-transferable and are for the exclusive use of the assignee (short-term parking by spouses is permissable.

 


Johnson / Medoc Travel Insurance

Travel lnsurance is available through MEDOC TRAVEL INSURANCE. For more information call: 1-866-799-0000 or visit http://www.johnson.ca/urbc UVRA members who have coverage with MEDOC can enter the "Members Only" sitse. Other UVRA members, or prospective members, can find relevant information under the Home Insurance or Travel Insurance tabs. The group name requested uner the Travel Insurance tab is University Retirees of British Columbia.

 


Pacific Blue Cross Extended Medical and Dental

For general information regarding UVic retiree benefits please contact the Benefits Office in Human Resources at 250.721.6522. For specific information and to register for the UVic Retirees Extended Health and Dental plans, please contact Pacific Blue Cross directly at 1-888-275-4671

You can also register for CaresNet at http://www.pbchbs.com/Corp/Default.aspx  This provides access to coverage information under the retiree plans, as well as specific information regarding the status of claims.  You can also download claim forms.


Library Privileges

Full members with a current Photo ID Card have access to the University Libraries, borrowing privileges. You may access the Library online by using your netlink id, or your previous bar code information. Associate Members may use the facilities with a retiree Photo ID Card but will be considered an external borrower. Visit the Library online

Computer Store/Computer Help Desk

Retirees with a current Photo ID Card are entitled to purchase items from Computer Store.
Assistance with computer problems is provided to retirees by calling the Help Desk 250.721.7687

Vikes Recreation membership

All eligible members of our Association who were employed at UVic can obtain a complimentary Vikes Recreation membership by using your current Photo ID Card for use of the University's athletic facilties. Vikes Recreation offers excellent fitness programs but there are occasions when extra charges are levied. Spouses can purchase a membership either per term or per year. University Club membership

All retired UVic Faculty and Staff who have been Regular members of the University Club for at least five years prior to retirement are eligible for a Retired (non-voting) membership at one half of the dues of a Regular member.

UVRA Members, who do not qualify for the 50% reduction in dues, may apply through the UVRA to become a  Retired (non-voting) member of the University Club at a dues rate of 75% of that of a Regular member.   A retiree who maintains a membership for five years after retirement will then qualify for the 50% reduction.   Details of University Club membership may be found on the Club web site at http://club.uvic.ca/pages/membership.html   Application forms for membership are available in the UVRA Office.

For more information on memberships or about the Club, please contact Peter or Rashna at 250-721- 7935.  The UVRA Office can also arrange for you to try the Club for a lunch or a dinner before you decide to join. You will, of course, have to pay for the meal.
