The University of Victoria Sailing Club (UVSC) was re-established in September 2005 as a VIKES Recreation Sports Club by the head instructor, and sailing director (David Fagen) of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club (RVYC). The sailing club used RVYC's fleet of 420's to run race team practices and sailing lessons unitl the Spring of 2008 when the club raised enough money to buy the University of Washington's two year old fleet of six Collegiate FJ's, and a motor boat. Since the spring of 2008, the sailing club has made several improvements to the compound, including building a new boat storage rack, adding gravel to mitigate flooding problems, and general improvements to the compound to make it a better place for everyone to spend their time.

After the sailing club took ownership of their new fleet of boats, they used them to host the Inagural Western Canada Cup in the Spring of 2008, and followed it up with a second successfull regatta in 2009.

The sailing clubs race team began traveling more than ever in the 2008-2009 season, with trips almost every weekend to Washington and Oregon, and a trip to Santa Barbara, California in November for a big Inter-Collegiate regatta, and a trip to Hawaii for another large Inter-Collegiate event in January of 2009.

In the Spring of 2009 the sailing club became only the second Canadian team to become a full regular member of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association, solidifying its place in the sailing world, and insuring UVic will continue to play a greater roll in Inter-Collegiate Sailing.
